What’s on the horizon for the Australian Recruitment Industry in 2019?

Authored By Ms Kara Willoughby

Each year, Bullhorn asks global recruitment professionals from agencies of all sizes to share their thoughts on what's most important to their businesses for the year ahead. Australian recruiters were confident about the industry in 2018, with a generally positive hiring outlook according to Bullhorn’s 2018 Australian Recruitment Trends Report. Respondents expected to see both their revenue and hiring needs increase over the coming year, at 81 percent and 72 percent respectively. Technology was another big mover in 2018, with 59% of recruitment agencies anticipating an increase in tech spending compared to 40% who expected an increase in 2017.

Simon Greening, APAC Regional Director at Bullhorn, commented on the findings: “Australian recruitment agencies were quietly confident about the industry outlook for 2018 which is proving true. The biggest change we saw between 2017 and 2018 was the shift in focus towards profitability over top-line growth. Many consider market conditions to be the best that they have been for a long time, and the most recent trends and comments heard regularly pertain to the challenges inherent to agencies capitalising on a buoyant economy - primarily around attracting and developing their best talent whilst mitigating risks such as enforced operational changes by government legislation”.
